Information and Communication Society of India (ICSI): About Us

Information and Communication Society of India (ICSI)
ICSI is a registered professional society based in New Delhi, India. ICSI is one of the signatories of the Lyon Declaration on Access to Information and Development.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
a) To collect and disseminate relevant knowledge on information and communication;
b) To initiate projects, studies, surveys, data analysis and other allied activities on its own behalf or on behalf of other agencies;
c) To provide editorial and technical supports for the publication of print and electronic materials;
d) To impart training on information, communication and related areas and promote studies thereof;
e) To maintain liaison with similar national and international organizations;
f) To publish and distribute materials devoted to information, communication, and related areas;
g) To promote automation, networking, application of Internet and advanced information and communication technologies in library and information environment; and
h) To associate with such programmes and activities as may be considered necessary and useful for promoting the Aims and Objects of the Society.

ACTIVITIES
Ever since the foundation of the Society, continuous attempts have been made to undertake projects. We have already accomplished some projects, and the work on a new project has just begun. A brief description of these projects is given below

1. Research Project “Growth of Scientific Periodicals in India (1948-2000)”. The project was awarded to the Society by the Indian National Science Academy, for the period of 2014-2017. Dr. B K Sen was the principal investigator in this project. About this Project.

2. Research Project “Growth of Scientific Societies in India: 1784-1947"
The project was awarded to the Society by the Indian National Science Academy, for the period of 2009-2013. Dr. B K Sen was the principal investigator in this project. Summary of this Project.

3. Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts (ILSA) 2006-2010
Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts 2006-2010, covering Indian Library and Information Science Periodicals; Monographs; Proceedings of Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, etc. published during this period. This volume will be published by Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Kolkata, India. The work is now published by IASLIC. Vol. 40-44, 2006-2010, ISSN: 0019-5790.

4. Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts (ILSA) 2000-2005
Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts 2000-2005, published by IASLIC. This volume covers Indian Library and Information Science Periodicals; Monographs; Proceedings of Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, etc. published during this period.

5. Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts (ILSA) 1992 –1999
Indian Library and Information Science Abstracts 1992-1999, published by by IASLIC. This volume was released in October 2003. In all 3215 entries were included. It covers Indian Library and Information Science Periodicals; Monographs; Proceedings of Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, etc. published during this period.

6. Max Mueller Bhavan Project - Analyses of Libraries and Sources of Information in India
The project was awarded to the Society on 4th October 2002. In fact there were three projects related to India, Delhi and Calcutta. The Project was completed with record speed in just five months.

7. Annotated Bibliography of Rare Books at the Central Secretariat Library
The project was awarded to the Society on 22 January 2003 and was completed in about three months time. Society annotated more than 1500 books.

8. National Forests Commission Report, 2006
The Project was awarded to the Society in January 2006 for the technical editing and technical writing of the Commission Report and its recommendations (conducted by ICFRE, Dehra Dun, India). The Project was completed with record speed in just two months.

ICSI Membership

ICSI Membership


Information and Communication Society of India (ICSI) is an all India professional body devoted to encouraging interaction among information and communication professionals, science communicators, social media managers and users. The Society is truly professional in nature. It enrolls only the qualified persons as members after the applications have been screened and approved by the Membership Screening Committee which is duly nominated by the Executive Committee. The Society has two types of memberships: Life and Institutional. Membership of the Society is open to those who are either graduates or associates for some time with professional activities which are of interest to ICSI. The Membership of the Society has been growing over the years. Membership fee for life members is Rs.1000/- (w.e.f. January 2015). Institutional Membership is open to institutions interested and involved in communications, knowledge and information management. The institutional membership subscription is INR 20,000.00.

ICSI organized a Seminar on Commercialization of Knowledge, on 17th July 2019

The Information and Communication Society of India (ICSI) successfully organized a Seminar on "Commercialization of Knowledge" at India International Centre, New Delhi on 17th July 2019.

In this event, Dr. Renu Swaroop, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), served as the keynote speaker. The other lead speakers in the event included Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE; Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities (AIU); Prof. Riyaz Panjabi, Former Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University; Dr. H. Purushotham, Chairman & Managing Director, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC); Dr. Unnat Pandit, NITI Aayog; and senior representatives from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and various other organizations. There was a Panel Discussion on "Commercialization of Knowledge and Open Access: Striking a Balance" in the event.
